ASSA@Home | The UniStellar eVscope

Description: Ian will describe the features of the eVscope and his experience to date with the world’s first consumer digital telescope, including the various opportunities to engage in Citizen Science projects. It was SETI Institute’s citizen science programs that first drew Ian’s attention to Unistellar and the promise of deeper involvement with astronomy. He believes Unistellar presents the new face of astronomy, and has found many in the Unistellar community enjoy helping others on their journey into the astronomical realm. Ian will also provide a live demonstration if weather conditions are suitable. Otherwise, a tour of the eVscope app and functionality can still be undertaken.

Bio: Ian Blackwell is a software developer and Linux enthusiast, who has been interested in science and technology from a young age. He has been a member of the Astronomical Society of South Australia since 2015, and is currently the Society’s Digital Services Officer. He briefly studied astronomy because of his desire to learn about the universe and the mysteries of what is above us. He purchased his first telescope 15 years ago to stargaze and observe the solar system with his daughter. Today, he enjoys observing the night sky in his backyard or at the Stockport Observatory.

Disclosure: Ian has recently been named as one of Unistellar’s first Global Brand Ambassadors, and is an unashamed “Fan Boy” of the product. The eVscope is not currently available for sale in Australia, and Ian receives no financial or other inducements from Unistellar.
