Membership
Membership is open to people of all ages and professions -- the only pre-requisite is an interest in Astronomy.
It does not matter how much you know about Astronomy or any other science. The Society has something for everyone. Our members come from all walks of life and we currently have over 650 members. What they share is the enjoyment the night sky has to offer. Our members include:
- Social astronomers who enjoy the company of other like-minded people
- Armchair astronomers who mostly enjoy reading and learning about Astronomy
- Amateur astronomers who enjoy learning from other knowledgeable and experienced amateurs
- Professional scientists, engineers and technicians
- Citizen scientists, researchers and discoverers of comets
- Families who simply enjoy observing the amazing Universe with their eyes, binoculars or telescopes

Free Entry to Viewing Nights
Members can attend any of the Society's viewing nights free of charge. Viewing nights exclusively for ASSA members are held each month at the Stockport Observatory, Tooperang and Meldanda observing sites, Whyalla and the Northern York Peninsula.
Stay Informed with The Bulletin
ASSA members receive a 16-20 page newsletter each month to keep them informed on current astronomical news and events.
Online Forums and Mailing List
ASSA members are welcome to join our online forums and ASSA-Chat, the Society's own internal mailing list. With over 250 subscribers, this is an extremely useful resource.
